Review FlyData proposal
http://imageweb.zoo.ox.ac.uk/wiki/index.php/FlyData_project
Helen acknowledged having seen this. We agreed that the original decision support aspirations were somewhat overtaken by events, and could not usefully be transferred to the "cups and comets" project.
Revision to FlyData project goals
(To what extent should the original project goals be revised in light of passing time and developments? What we do must be relevant and responsive to current needs)
See later: the initial goals will focus on making data from work of Helen's group easil;y comparable with related data from other sources on the web. The specific initial source to be investigated will be from http://flyatlas.org/.
Questions
(Notes for GK; not discussed explicitly)
- Initial phase requirements?
- How to store raw data and images?
- How to store metadata, and other ontologically structured information?
Identify near-term objectives
(What simple functions would provide mmediate benefit to researchers? What tools would they most like to have available?)
Integrate Affymetrix data with Fly-ted image data, and also Flyatlas data. Just want all data in one table, for starters.
See: http://flyatlas.org/
The initial goal, then, is to take locally generated Affymetrix chip data and integrate with Flyatlas data from same organ. These are essentially compatible data sets. This is an ideal goal to get us started, as it is both simple and useful.
Evaluation criteria for objectives
(How can we tell if we've delivered what has been requested? Emphasize that this doesn't preclude users from changing their minds - this is allowed, even encouraged, when the first round has been accomplished.)
Success if Helen can see her Affymetrix data and corresponding Flyatlas results in a single web page display.
GK will examine the data sources and come back with a testable proposal to meet this objective (after holiday, and some IT server admin work has been done).
