OAI-PMH to RDF converter

• http://simile.mit.edu/wiki/OAI-PMH_RDFizer -- well, it creates RDF using XSLT transformers.

This tool queries a digital repository using the OAI-PMH protocol, and converts the data returned by the to RDF.

Sample command:

oai2rdf.bat -f 2007-03-01 -m oai_dc http://www.dspace.cam.ac.uk/dspace-oai/request 

(where 2007-03-01 is the start date for records to be returned, oai_dc is a prefix for returned metadata, and the URI parameter is the URI of the repository OAI endpoint.)

This software is not capable of querying a specified collection within the repository.

This software is not capable of performing on-the-fly adaptation of SPARQL queries.

Testing

The evaluation of this tool shows that this tool can successfully harvest and convert the metadata content of a repository that supports OAI-PMH by giving the URL of the Cambridge DSpace:

oai2rdf.bat -f 2007-03-01 -m oai_dc http://www.dspace.cam.ac.uk/dspace-oai/request 

However, the performance of the task was not evaluated as the evaluation was conducted out of the office.

Observations

Lack of on-the-fly SPARQL query rewriting makes this of limited use for our purposes, but it may prove useful in early stages of development when testing other Semantic web tools with repository data.
