Papers and presentations
- http://dublincore.org/documents/abstract-model/ - Andy Powell paper. DC can be used in conjunction with Semantic Web techniques. Images are part of the Dublin Core abstract model and FRBR Library standard Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records.
- http://sector.amol.org.au/collections/management/software_for_cms?MySourceSession=20194b - a survey of collections management system; mostly commercial, I think
- http://www.wiscorp.com/H2-2006-006-SQL-XQuery-and-SPARQL-What_s-Wrong-With-This-Picture.pdf - an interesting survey of query languages for relational, XML and RDF data. Despite the title, the conclusion is very positive. Interestingly, most of the material was apparently written prior to awareness of Chris Bizer and Richard Cyganiac's work on SPARQL query rewriting. It's also interesting to note that the SPARQL query algebra is defined substantially in relational terms, where variable bindings can be seen as tables whose columns correspond to query variables.
- http://2006.xmlconference.org/programme/presentations/21.html - "SQL, XQuery, and SPARQL: Making the Picture Prettier", a follow-up presentation.
- http://www.hpl.hp.com/techreports/2005/HPL-2005-170.pdf - Richard Cyganiac, "A relational algebra for SPARQL".
- (TODO: find Andy Seaborne's presentation of SPARQL query algebra)?
Projects and research groups
- http://www.dlib.org/dlib/february06/02inbrief.html - a summary page covering some of the other projects mentioned here as related work.
- http://www.cherri.mvm.ed.ac.uk/ - Cherri: very good overview of rights and IPR for medical research data. CLIC worked with them. (Rachel Ellaway?)
- The eDiamond Project http://www.ediamond.ox.ac.uk/ for sharing mammography images has led on to the GIMI project http://www.softeng.ox.ac.uk/projects/gimi.html with security level sign-in.
- See also Musti Rahman's paper on legal aspects of this: Ownership of Intellectual Property Rights in Medical Data in collaborative computing environments
- http://www.adammathes.com/academic/computer-mediated-communication/folksonomies.html - Folksonomies: Cooperative Classification and Communication Through Shared Metadata, Adam Mathes.
- http://www.nactem.ac.uk/ - JISC National Text Mining Centre (Liverpool) might be useful. David Shotton has invited them to a relevant Ontogenesis Network meeting, but they were unable to attend.
Software systems
- http://exist.sourceforge.net/ - open source XML native database with XQuery support.
RDF related notes
- http://iandavis.com/blog/2007/03/bnodes-out - discussion of the role of bNodes in RDF. (I can see both sides of this. One lesson, I think, is that if you can automatically create a unique and repeatable URI based on available information, do that rather than introduce a bNode.)
- http://www.team-project.eu/documents/TEAM_deliverable_D5.pdf - report from the TEAM project (http://www.team-project.eu/), reviewing the existing metadata management systems or tools for software engineering.
