SOURCE (Sharing Objects Under Repository Control with Everyone)

"... the core aim of this project is to enable bulk-migration and deposit of learning objects in significant UK HE platforms across the JISC provider IE architecture."

It would seem that any tool which enables faithfull migration of relevant metadata must, at some level, address some of the concerns that we face when trying to correlate different metadata across various repositories. Whether this is achieved in practice remains to be seen, but metadata migration aspects of this work should be reviewed.

The work involves defining a "standard" repository interface for content bulk migration (how does this differ from other standard interfaces; e.g. the Pathways/ORE proposals, which seem to be more generic?) - this will be created according to the Open Knowledge Initiatives definition for a repository service interface (OSID). Any transformation of content (presumably including metadata) is perfortmed by a bulk transfer tool that uses the standard interface.

Three proprietary and one open source repository (FEDORA) are planned to have interfaces implemented.

A 2 year project (Oct 2006 - Oct 2008) led by Birkbeck College London.
