Digital Curation Centre SCARP project
"The DCC SCARP Project will investigate disciplinary attitudes and approaches to data deposit, sharing and re-use, curation and preservation."
Before looking at the above web page, I had understood the SCARP project to be primarily about preservation, and technical means to achieve this. But the project web page sets out on a discussion of attitudes in different research disciplines to the publication andsharing of data, which surprises me. My mistake, I was confusing SCARP with CASPAR - rewrite this
There is a key comment that is very close to one of our own conclusions from this Defining Image Access project: "Moreover, by engaging with the current producers of data we can greatly simplify the process of preservation" (and, by implication, re-use?). The page also makes a point that implicitly underpins our goals: that it is latterly often not feasible or economical to verify scientific results by repeating an experiment.
Image Store Project
"The Image Store Project is a project within the DCC SCARP Project that aims to determine the requirements for effective curation of scientific research images, video and associated data from the biological domain, to enable both long-term preservation and digital re-use for meta-research and teaching."
We are intimately connected with this aspect of the SCARP project, which is providing additional valuable insightsd into the data re-use aspirations and requirements of biological researchers. See The_ImageStore_Project.
