A two year project (Jan 2007 - Dec 2008) "to investigate the use of current open-source digital repository software to enable the automatic curation of robot-generated experimental data and metadata".
"The intention is to demonstrate the feasibility of using current open-source digital repository software for management of data acquired directly from automatic integrated laboratory equipment, specifically the Robot Scientist 1 created at UWA."
"It is expected that the project will also contribute to research on the sharing of experimental data ... vision for data repositories ... an information environment in which raw research data is made available on an open access basis"
Although the use of robotic data acquisition is not related to oiur work, many of the other aspects of this project are very much relevant to our goals publishing experimental data as part of the public record. We have another (non-JISC) project that will include automatically gathered as well as human-entered metadata as part of the experimental record, though not necessarily directly submitted to an institutional repository.
