Data spaces

The term "Data Space" has been adopted by Michael Franklin, Alon Halevy and David Maier to describe the coordination of multiple independent darta sources into a coherent whole. Their presentation focuses initially on data sources that are relational databases, but the ideas are generalized any form of network-accessible data. As such, this idea has many ideas in common with our notion of a data web, but their goal is broader: where our focus is on combining and linking web-based resources, in particular using semaantic web ideas and tools, they outline a research agenda that potentially encompasses all accessible data.

This page describes the Data Space idea applied to personal data - "the set of files that exist on all your computers and network drives" - and introduces a prorotype implementation iMeMex of such a personal data space.
