CLADDIER
CLADDIER Citation, Location, And Deposition in Discipline and Institutional Repositories

This project will build and deploy a demonstration system linking publications held in two institutional repositories (Southampton University and the CCLRC) with data holdings in the British Atmospheric Data Centre.
Project durtation: 1 June 2005 to 31 May 2007 (+ 3 month extension?)
Four significant reports will be produced:
- User Experience of the CLADDIER System (written by active environmental scientists based on their experiences)
- Identifier Migration Issues for Repositories
- Recommendations for data/publication linkage (based on lessons learned, and a review of the literature)
- Methodologies and Practices for Data Publication.
The CLADDIER system will be a step on the road to a situation where (in this case, environmental) scientists will to be able to move seamlessly from information discovery (location), through acquisition to deposition of new material, with all the digital objects correctly identified and cited. The lessons learned will be of applicability for the relationships between other discipline based repositories and institutional repositories.
This all looks very usefully related to our interests in linking research images and data from laboratory work with published papers.
Published information is still a little thin on the ground.
From the CLADDIER progress report, July
They report on jOAI, an application may be a useful tool for querying, harvesting and indexing OAI data in a repository. CLADDIER have built client-side component for this.
WP3 notes that they have dropped plans to introduce a common identifier system.
WP6 looks interesting: a bit like a blog track-back mechanism for citations. Subsequently, we've spoken to Alistair Miles about who was tasked to implement this, and he says that, due to technical constraints, the actual implementation is more like a multi-target search for a terms. (did I get that right?)
