Meeting with Silk Group

When: 28-Jan-2010

Where: Zoology

Present: FV, CH, MB-A, TG; DS, DG, GK

Absent:

After an introduction to the ADMIRAL Project, we discussed existing data types, "pain points" and service requirements. Top of the list of services was a local filestore with secure individual access. The group had lots of data, but wished to concentrate in the first instance on managing their mechanical strain datasets, which formed a large coherent well-defined group of data objects, although they have been collected over the years using a variety of instruments, in a variety of formats including Access, Labview, Excel and a number of now historic file types including Foxbase and dBase. The group's pain points include data heterogeneity and variation in data quality. Diana's background in composite materials research should greatly help in understanding this group's data.
