ADMIRAL 20100128 meeting Development Group
From ImageWeb
Meeting with Shimeld (Developmental Biology) Group
When: 28-Jan-2010
Where: Zoology
Present: PH, SS, KR, HT; DS, DG, GK
Absent: RL-R
RL-R has lots of image data, so it will be important to bring him up to speed on his return.
After a similar introduction to ADMIRAL as given to the silk group, we discussed this group's data management needs. One that had not been anticipated was that of storing lots of short-fragment sequence data generated by new high-throughput technologies at the Sanger Centre, since these datasets needed to be re-analysed from time to time. In addition, it would be helpful to store and share the many phylogenetic trees, calculated using different parameters, that typically never get published.
In contrast to the Silk Research Group, this group was happy to have a common data storage facility to which all members had access. Users did not wish to abandon their current practice of saving data locally on their own machines, so any new system would need to impose minimal additional work. An automated system that could harvest new files from pre-specified regions of the local hard drive would be ideal.
